Helping the Community of Somerset
At C&D South West we believe that local business can help communities by providing support and resources that they may need and at C&D South West this means giving back to the Chard and Somerset community. Below are just a few examples of how we get involved.
"At C&D South West, as a family business we have always believed that it’s important that we give to the local community where we can. We pride ourselves on being part of the community and support and thank all people and families that also support our communities."
Lorna Hammond – Managing Director
Carnivals are a great spectacle in Somerset’s annual calendar and each float requires a hitch and transportation through the streets of Somerset’s towns, and that’s what we provide to many of the local annual carnival routes.
We also offer our vehicles as collection floats for multiple local Somerset carnivals and have helped raise thousands of pounds for the local carnival committees and associated charities.
Carnivals are a brilliant local event enjoyed by many across the west-country and we enjoy giving back to our local communities by supporting the events each year.
Local Music Mobile Stage Truck
For many years we have supported and sponsored local events by providing mobile lorry stages free of charge at multiple events such as: The Somerset County Show, The Chardstock Street Fayre, Love the Lorry, Ilminster ‘Party in The Park’, the Taunton & Somerset Armed Forces Day and the Chard Beer Fest.
We help the community by converting our trailers and vehicles into mobile stages for local live music events. To enable us to do this we adopt the vehicle or trailer for housing all the necessary equipment needed to deliver a cracking performance. This enables us to support local music, charity events, local and youth music development.
We thoroughly enjoy supporting a range of activities in the Chard and Somerset area and we would like to say a big thank you to all helpers, drivers and volunteers for helping C&D South West support the community in this way.
At C&D we actively participate in local apprenticeship fairs to showcase the apprenticeship opportunities at C&D, supported by our HGV driver academy scheme that has allowed us to bring fresh talent into the industry adopting a ‘skill for life’ methodology. We use our driver academy to train our employees from van drivers to professional HGV drivers, proactively addressing the skill shortages we face in the transport industry.
At C&D South West we are particularly proud of our heritage and the area in which we trade and investing in the local community is at the heart of everything that we do. As a family owned business we’re committed to the wellbeing of our employees, their families and those who’re impacted by our company values in the surrounding region, from supporting local schools to the provision of apprentice opportunities, providing jobs and supporting the local economy.
