Chard based transport and logistics company, C&D South West are celebrating the news that it has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Somerset Business Awards for 2021 and in a category not normally associated with their industry.
Amongst the new awards this year include an Environmental Award, one designed to recognise an individual or organisation’s positive environmental impact and it is this award that C&D have been selected as a finalist. Lorna Hammond, C&D’s Managing Director said,
“We’re delighted to be selected as a finalist, especially in a category that recognises the hard work and commitment that we’ve made as a company to protecting the environment and acknowledges our ambition to becoming 100% carbon neutral.
“We’re proud to be partnered with Ecologi, a not-for-profit organisation that helps businesses become completely carbon-neutral by planting trees and by funding some of the world’s best climate crisis solutions and carbon reduction projects. The standards of these projects are certified at the highest level by a Gold Standard mark.
“Our partners at Ecologi publish certificates each month of how many tonnes of CO2 (‘carbon credits’) have been prevented from going into the atmosphere or removed from it. We understand that our industry is a vital part of the UK economy and we want to pioneer that change and initiative to a greener transport and logistics industry meaning a sustainable future for everyone.”
The awards, which are now in their 16th year, recognise and celebrate the very best of Somerset’s wide range of businesses across all sectors and are the only county-wide business awards in the county.
Although later than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards will be held at 3pm on Friday, March 26th when the winners will be announced at a live streamed online event. All finalists will receive a luxury hamper full of Somerset produce and celebratory goodies to help them celebrate on the day.
BBC presenter Claire Carter will be joined by the panel of judges who will each introduce their category, the finalist’s videos and virtually present the awards creating all the excitement and tension you would expect from the Somerset Business Awards!
