Somerset Business Awards 2018 – Winners

Following on from our nomination to the final 3 for the Albert Goodman Family Business Award at the Somerset Business Awards 2018, We are thrilled to announce we were the winners in this category for 2018.

The winners of the 2018 Somerset Business Awards were announced at a glittering black-tie event on Friday 19 October 2018, where nearly 400 influential business people celebrated the best of Somerset businesses at Wellsprings Leisure Centre in Taunton.

Hosted by Somerset cricket all-rounder and cult hero, Peter Trego, the 14 Awards were presented by their sponsors, before all the winners were announced and invited on stage to collect their trophy and give a short speech.

Greg Saunders, Chair of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce – organisers of the Awards –  welcomed all the finalists and sponsors to the event, and congratulated them on making it so far in the Awards. He commented, “The Awards are now in their 14^th year, and are a firmly established highlight of the Somerset business calendar. Tonight we celebrate the success and diversity within the Somerset community.”

Eight-time main sponsor and leading local accountancy firm, Albert Goodman, also took to the stage to welcome everyone to the Awards and congratulate the finalists. Managing Partner, Richard Bugler, commented, “The Somerset Business Awards are always such a fantastic celebration of the best and brightest of the Somerset business community. Albert Goodman is delighted to be in its eighth year as the main sponsor and it has been a truly rewarding experience to get to know many of the wonderful businesses and charities that enter these Awards. Entering and winning the Awards can have a really tangible impact for businesses and we’d encourage everyone who is proud of their business to have a go. This was an extremely proud moment for C & D South West and we would like to thank all our Staff, Customers and Suppliers for all their support and being part of the extended family. We have been a family owned Business for over 30 years and to take home this award as recognition for our achievements is a great feeling. Congratulations to all the other finalists and winners for the night, it was so encouraging to be at an event with so many thriving local businesses.

The Main sponsors of the evening, Albert Goodman, host the Family Business award and annually look for demonstration that the family has significant influence on the business, with one or more family members involved in the management of the business. It is also key for the business to be financially successful and show a clear vision for the long-term future of the business. Mike Cahill presented the Award, saying, “It is an honour to introduce our Award. Family business has a huge impact on our economy and it is amazing to see the passion and pride of our local businesses, coupled with the unrivalled enthusiasm and energy for their success.”

This year, The Albert Goodman Family Business of the Year Award was presented to C & D South West Ltd. Sam and Lorna Hammond collected the Award, saying, “We are so happy and quite overwhelmed. It’s not possible without our staff and suppliers – so thank you so much.”
