We are delighted to announce our role as the Official Transport Partner for The Journey of the Somerset Dragon, a landmark community initiative led by Passion for Somerset CIC in celebration of Somerset Day 2026.
Unveiled for the very first time in the orchards at Thatchers Cider, the spectacular Somerset Dragon, standing over two metres tall, marks the beginning of a county-wide celebration of heritage, creativity, and togetherness. Lorna Hammond, Managing Director, said; “At C & D South West Ltd, we are incredibly proud to support projects that capture the heart and soul of Somerset. Transport is about more than moving from one place to another – it’s about connecting people, stories, and communities. The Journey of the Somerset Dragon embodies that connection, and we are honoured to help carry it across the county.”
The Journey of the Somerset Dragon is more than a travelling installation – it is a celebration of identity and belonging. Alongside the tour, an educational programme entitled The Tail of the Dragon will inspire primary school children throughout Somerset, with beautifully illustrated books being distributed to schools to encourage learning about local heritage and folklore.
Community engagement lies at the centre of the project, with residents invited to attend free events, follow the Dragon’s progress, and take part in naming this new symbol of Somerset pride. The winning name will be revealed on Somerset Day, Monday 11 May 2026.
C & D South West Ltd’s partnership highlights the importance of local businesses working hand-in-hand with community organisations to create meaningful experiences. By supporting this initiative, we are able to reaffirm our dedication to the people and places it serves every day.
